Hello, Keys.

Top Ten High School Musical songs

‘Cos I can. And because I want to have an entry on here for people to read.

10. Start Of Something New

Because It was the start of something new, a phenomenon that has united girls everywhere through the love they have for HSM, more specifically Zac Efron. Plus it was a pretty good opening song; It helped set up the inevitable romance between the two leads & also the other plot line. What was it? Oh yeah, he had to choose between basketball & acting or something. Yeah, that too.

9. I Don’t Dance

Now, a lot of people will not agree, I know this. However this is the only song throughout the entire trilogy that experiments with pairings, as every other song is either Troy & Gabriella, Sharpay & Ryan, Sharpay & Troy, a group number, etc. In this song, Ryan tries to convince Chad to participate in the country club’s talent show. The song & dance come off very camp but I think that’s what makes it so different and interesting in comparison to the rest of the soundtrack. They took a risk, it didn’t pay off, but in the long run I think people will come to appreciate it.

8. High School Musical

When I first heard this song, I instantly fell in love. Barbershop harmonies along with the most uplifting orchestral score, you can’t listen to this song without feeling some sort of happy feeling inside. The dancing & choreography is really cool, too. I shouldn’t write things when I am this tired, I become so unimaginative.

7. Scream

No doubt Zac’s best solo performance in the HSM trilogy. I’m a big fan of both Getcha Head In The Game & Bet On It, but Scream has so much depth to it & is an attempt at a more serious musical number. Using distorted guitar riffs & a heavy drum beat, you can actually feel how Troy is feeling. Very creative song. *tired*

6. I Want It All

Ryan & Sharpay’s best number in the trilogy. Bop To The Top & What I’ve Been Looking For were amazing performances on their part, but I Want It All takes the money & runs with it. A completely extravagant set, featuring other cast members as their minions, as well as a female dance troupe doing the can-can at the end, Sharpay & Ryan went out with a bang with this song.

5. A Night To Remember

It seems like the majority of this Top 10 are from HSM3, & I would be lying if I disagreed. This is because HSM3 really stepped up their game & went all out with the song writing and production. This group number is especially fun to sing & dance along with, as you can pick your part and get equal “star time”. Plus it has a good beat. Ka Pai.

4. Stick To The Status Quo

Ok, I lied in the last one when I said that the songs in HSM3 are superior to previous songs. In the group numbers category, I believe Stick To The Status Quo takes the cake, simply because it introduced a sub-plot which teaches kids good lessons: everyone should be friends, not cliquey. It was the first group number in the trilogy and was just so catchy, it was easy for absolutely everyone to get into.

3. What Time Is It?

Best. Opening. Song. Ever. What Time Is It was the best opening song for any of the HSM movies. I don’t know what it is, but it just gets you in the mood for the Summer season & makes you want to dance with your friends by a pool, with HSM blasting loudly of course. If anyone knows why this song is so awesome, please leave a comment explaining why.

2. Breaking Free

This is the song that got me into the first HSM movie, after I saw it play on music television a lot. It it probably the second most identifiable HSM song, behind #1, and basically represents HSM1. You see and hear the conflict of Troy & Gabriella VS everyone else, but they sing their little hearts out & people decide to accept what they want, that is until HSM2.

1. We’re All In This Together

Most identifiable HSM song. Jesus, i’m so tired. So ’nuff said. Good ending song. Big bang. Woop woop. Yes.
